If you are majoring in science or engineering and would like to have first-hand experience working in nanotechnology, there are several Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) programs around the country with a nanoscience and/or nanotechnology focus. We may be partial, but our favorite is the 9-week program at the Nanoscale Science & Engineering Center headquartered at Northwestern University. Check the program out at www.nsec.northwestern.edu/education. For information about other programs around the country, we suggest that you visit the National Nanotechnology Initiative web site (www.nano.gov) and click on the link for “research centers.” Most of the National Science Foundation funded centers will provide research opportunities for undergraduates.
